My text said..
“Having such a hard time breathing. I don’t know if I can make it”
I was 50 yards from the 20 mile marker during my first marathon this past weekend. I had my phone on me to track my pace using RunKeeper and, at the time, it seemed like a godsend. After sending the text, I immediately called my partner saying “I can’t do this!” fully believing that he would pick me up and I would just quit with 6.2 miles left to run in the race.
I’ll be honest, at the time, I was a little annoyed that he refused to pick me up. He gave me a pep talk and I went on my way for another 6.2 miles in pain and misery. Today, I am so thankful that he talked some sense into me and convinced me to keep going.
I want you to think about who you would call when you really want to quit. Who will be the one to talk some sense into you and remind you of how amazing you are so that you can keep going? Who will refuse to bail you out because they know what you are capable of achieving?
No matter what goals you have, there will be at least one moment in your life where you want to quit because quitting will be easier. You will feel or have felt that you’ve been pushed to your physical and mental limit and just can’t go on any longer. I know what that feels like many times over! Quitting is easier!
BUT life isn’t about what’s easy. Success and reaching goals requires a strong mental attitude AND a strong support system.
Who is part of your support system? Who can you call when you feel like quitting?
